This article will explain, and outline some examples, of how point expiry works. If you're interested in setting up Point expiry, please see this article
Key Points:
Point expiry is based on customer activity within the program, not on when the points were originally earned.
All points in a customer's account will expire together – there are no partial expirations.
Below are examples that show when points will expire, assuming the expiry is set for 12 months.
Example
Person 1:
1 Jan 2023: Order placed, earned 40 points – Balance: 40 points
1 Jan 2024: All 40 points expired – Balance: 0 points
Person 2:
1 Jan 2023: Order placed, earned 40 points – Balance: 40 points
5 Jan 2023: Followed on Instagram, earned 40 points – Balance: 80 points
1 Jan 2024: No points expired due to recent activity – Balance: 80 points
5 Jan 2024: All 80 points expired – Balance: 0 points
Person 3:
1 Jan 2023: Order placed, earned 40 points – Balance: 40 points
8 Jan 2023: Redeemed 20 points – Balance: 20 points
1 Jan 2024: No points expired due to recent activity – Balance: 20 points
8 Jan 2024: All 20 points expired – Balance: 0 points
Point Expiry Interactions
If you have a 12-month point expiry, some earning rules may unintentionally stop points from expiring. For example, a Birthday Earn rule gives points every year, which could prevent points from ever expiring.
When setting up an earn rule, there's an option called "Point Expiry Interactions." By default, earning points will extend the expiry date. You can uncheck this option if you don’t want the expiry date to change.
